Four Noteworthy ASL Events That CyraCom Attended in 2013

In 2013, CyraCom had the pleasure of sponsoring and attending many events geared toward the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and ASL Interpreter communities. Here are the top four ASL events that we attended in 2013!

Phoenix College’s Interpreter Preparation Program

In March 2013, I was invited to speak at Phoenix College for their Interpreter Preparation Program (IPP) class.  The class had about 25 students and all were eager to learn.  I spoke about VRI (Video Remote Interpreting) and how beneficial it is for both the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities as well as Healthcare providers wanting to provide interpretation services at a moment’s notice. Students were intrigued by the concept and were fascinated how technology has developed. At the end of the lecture CyraCom gift bags were given out to all students.

DeafNation Expo
Also in March 2013, CyraCom was represented at DeafNation Expo, an exclusive social networking event offering resources for the deaf and hard of hearing as well as sign language interpreters.  The event was attended by a few thousand individuals from the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Interpreting communities. It was a wonderful opportunity for CyraCom to provide information regarding our VRI solution.

Deaf-Blind Summer Retreat by the Lighthouse for the Blind
In August, CyraCom became a sponsor for the Deaf-Blind summer retreat provided by the Lighthouse for the Blind in Seattle, Washington. CyraCom donated over 200 backpacks for all attendees. One of CyraCom’s ASL Interpreters attends this event ever year and was instrumental in providing CyraCom with this worthwhile sponsorship opportunity.

Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf National Conference

CyraCom was also a proud sponsor of RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) National Conference and 50th Anniversary celebration in Indianapolis, Indiana, a wonderful opportunity for CyraCom to introduce itself to the ASL Interpreting community on a national level. Interpreters from all across the nation stopped to learn more about CyraCom and our VRI solution.

More Events in 2014

The 2013 events we attended were great and we’re looking forward to attend many more exciting conferences this year, such as the AZRID (Arizona Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) Region V conference in San Diego, CA and DeafFest, a festival supporting local Deaf and Hard of Hearing, in Phoenix, AZ.

We are proud of our involvement and hope to continue to promote and support ASL interpreting as well as the Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities in 2014.
