Engage, Empower, Evolve: NCIHC’s 8th Annual Membership Meeting!

NCIHCCyraCom is the major sponsor of the National Council on Interpreting in Health Care’s (NCIHC) 2014 Annual Membership Meeting (AMM) to be held in Charleston, SC on June 6-7. The title of this year’s meeting is “Engage, Empower, Evolve:  Enhancing Partnerships to Advance Language Access”.  CyraCom is proud to be a long-standing partner with the NCIHC and to continue efforts to advance language access through the use of qualified, professional healthcare interpreters.

Each year the AMM is an exciting opportunity for thought leaders and stakeholders in the health care interpreting industry to come together and share ideas.  This year’s keynote speaker is Ilene Corina, a nationally recognized advocate for patient safety.  Ms. Corina, President and founder of PULSE of New York, is known for her work in advocating for more effective and safe healthcare experiences through the improvement of communication and active patient engagement.

For those arriving the day before the meeting, a campus tour of the Medical University of South Carolina has been arranged.  The MC of this year’s AMM is Ignatius Bau, health policy consultant, author, and industry expert on patient-centered and equitable care.  The meeting agenda includes a variety of panel discussions, interactive group discussions (the Language Access Café), networking activities, NCIHC status reports, etc.

The 2014 AMM is a perfect opportunity to visit an iconic southern city and experience its culture, cuisine, architecture, and hospitality.  Charleston was named Top U.S. City in 2011, 2012, and 2013, and Top Destination in the World for 2012 by Condé Nast Traveler magazine.  Attendees will even have the chance to hear a storytelling presentation by a speaker of Gullah, a historic creole language spoken by the Gullah and Geechee people of the low country of South Carolina and Georgia.

As a former board member and co-chair of the Membership Committee of the NCIHC, I have helped to organize past Annual Membership Meetings in Atlanta, Las Vegas, Washington, D.C., and New Orleans.  This year’s AMM promises to be one of the best in recent memory with an impressive variety of topics, presenters, and activities.  CyraCom is thrilled to help the NCIHC welcome its members to Charleston to celebrate another year of progress in language access in health care!
